Tidal Bloom

Tidal Bloom began with a simple idea: a flower caught in a shimmering whirlpool, adrift at sea. But then, the relationship between the water and the bloom became the story that I needed to tell.

The water cannot choose what comes its way. Instead, it moves with the flower — carrying it, circling it, dancing with it. Tidal Bloom is about finding beauty in what we are given, even when life isn't still or predictable. A reminder that we don't always need to wait for calm seas to find something beautiful.

Part of the Perfumed Currents series, this large-scale original features deep, swirling teal currents surrounding an expressive, highly textured bloom, petals dancing off in the water.

Raised impasto creates an almost sculptural surface, catching the light differently throughout the day and revealing new details as you move around the painting.

Created by Australian artist Shelley Bailey, Tidal Bloom blends traditional and modern painting techniques, including brushes, glazes and cake decorating tools. Layers of acrylic are slowly built into a tactile, one-of-a-kind surface filled with movement, depth and personality.
